Fennec Fox

taronga 33 fennec fox

The fennec fox is the world’s smallest fox and is known for it’s large ears which can be half as long as their bodies. They can hear insects moving underneath the surface of the Sahara Desert sand. Fennec foxes have sandy coloured thick fur to insulate against the heat of the day and the cool of the night. The fur extends to the bottom of their feet to stop them getting burnt on the hot sand and to provide traction in the loose sand.
