Bongo

Taronga 92 Bongo

Eastern or Mountain Bongos live in the tropical dry forests and rainforest of the Kenyan Highlands. Bongos are the largest forest antelope and are critically endangered.

I’ve found the Bongo to be a tricky subject to photograph. They generally rest or sleep during the day so you’d think it would be fairly easy to get a photo of them being still. If it weren’t for their ears, this would be true. On many occasions I’ve thought that I had the shot worked out. The Bongo sitting quietly, a great looking portrait lined up and then when you take the shot the ears are out of focus because they are constantly flapping. The Bongo definitely forces me to try to improve my skills.
