Living in the inner suburbs of a major city within view of the high-rise buildings of the central business district reduces the opportunities to spot native animals in the wild. They are still around. The amount of possum poo on the ground each morning is testament to that, but most of the animals are nocturnal and constantly trying to evade the pet cats and dogs that wander the streets. So as far as wildlife subjects to photograph that leaves the birds and despite the overall feeling that there are fewer species of birds around than there were when I was a child, there are still plenty of fantastic birds on display in Australian parks and backyards.
